What are the requirements for broadcasting a linear stream?

We recommend to send your linear stream in multiple qualities to ensure the best user experience. If you are streaming your linear stream only in high definition, some users with a slow or unstable internet connection would not be able to watch your stream without buffering/loading and disconnections. If you cannot send multiple qualities, we recommend to choose a medium quality such as 720k or 1880k.

For multi-bitrate streaming, you have 2 options:

1. Multi-Bitrate Transmuxing: Transmuxes your ingested bitrate streams into a bitrate-adaptive stream to be published via bitrate-adaptive players. It requires the publisher to ingest multiple bitrate streams from the live-encoder.

2. Multi-Bitrate Transrating: Transrates your ingested single bitrate stream into multiple bitrates. Ingest a high bitrate and we will down-convert it into multiple lower bitrates, serving it to bitrate-adaptive players.

Encoder Settings:

1. When streaming a linear stream, please make sure to encode your stream with H.264 for video and AAC for audio, which is compatible with all major streaming players.

2. Video and Audio Bitrate: The minimum recommended requirements are:
Video Bitrate: 800Kbps
Stereo Audio Bitrate: 128Kbps

3. Turn one of your "Live Events" Channel into a "Linear Stream" Channel: Click on "Live Events" in the left-hand menu under "Channels" and click on the LIVE Channel you would like to turn into a linear stream. Then switch to the tab "SETTINGS" and change the Channel Type to "Linear Stream". Now go to "Linear Streams" in the left-hand menu under "Channels".

4. Configure your Encoder: The FMS URLs (CDN Access Points) for your encoder configuration are located in your "Linear Streams" Channel in your Media Cloud account. Click on one of your LIVE Channels and switch to the tab "STREAM". Here you will find the Live Channel's Stream Key (unique for each LIVE Channel) and the CDN access points. We recommend to choose the closest CDN Access Point to your location.

5. Please copy and paste also the Stream Key to your encoder. The Streaming URL is different for each LIVE Channel. Please make sure to use the Stream Key from the LIVE Channel you are planning to send your live stream through.

6. Send a test stream. You can see the test stream by mousing over the thumbnail of the Linear Stream Channel and clicking the Play button.
