Why does Lightcast transcode the video file I uploaded?

Each video upload is being transcoded and populated for optimized webstream into 12 file formats and bitrates. In order to deliver multiple bitrate video files for auto-bandwidth-switching to ensure perfect viewability for all users, Lightcast populates different bitrate files saved on our video storage and distributed via our worldwide CDN. In the same way additional file formats are transcoded and stored for delivery to mobile devices and set-top box outlets such as GoogleTV, Yahoo Connected TV and Roku.
