What is the best file format to upload video files?

The Lightcast Web Uploaders - available in your Lightcast.com account - accepts almost all common file types. The list of recommended video formats can be found on the video upload page.  Please keep in mind that the Lightcast Web Uploaders have a file size limit of  3GB. If your video files are larger than 3GB please order a dedicated FTP account. Your FTP account will accept files larger than 3GB (up to 8GB) and is designated for bulk uploads of 25 or more video files at once. Clients with large amounts of video files might want to consider to order a dedicated FTP account to save time and money. More info can be found here: http://www.lightcast.com/services/upload-service

When it comes to encoding settings, we recommend H.264 video and AAC audio, encoded into MP4 (ideally under 1GB per file and a maximum of 3GB per file).
